Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to your web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and coding HTML to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
Of course for search engines to index your site they need to be aware of the sites existance! The leading search engines, such as Google and Yahoo!, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results, these crawlers follow the majority of links that they come accross so the more links to your site the important your site will be considered to be by the search engines. A pages importance is given a numeric value by Google this value is conveyed for easy understanding as Page Rank. The higher your page rank the more important google considers your page. (Page Rank can be displayed as 0-10 value on google toolbar)
ECMedia will code your site to facilitate optimal Search Engine indexing.
It is generally down to the customer to monitor keyword density of their product descriptions, We would give the following guidelines:
Keyword density is a combination of the number of times a keyword or a keyword phrase, in proportion with other words, appears on a Web page. The more times the keyword appears in relation to the total number of on page words, the greater the overall keyword density. The more times that other words appear, the lower the proportion of keywords, resulting in a lighter keyword density.
So, try to include the product manufacturer and model name often amongst your text as these are the words that will most relevant to your product and the words that you would like to optimise in search result. Having said this do not make your description less usefull by over doing it as this will disuade would be customers.
